Welcome to our Reception Class homepage. We passionately believe that it is vital to get children off to a good start in their school life and to this end we aim to provide an outstanding environment and learning context for the children in their first year at school. We recognise that “Development can only take place when children are actively involved, when they are occupied with a high, non-stop degree of concentration, when they are interested, when they give themselves completely, when they use all their abilities to invent and make new things and when this gives them a high degree of satisfaction and pleasure” Ferre Laevers.
We are fortunate in admitting only 15 children into our “Barn Owl” class each year, which means that each child receives a high level of nurture, support and adult interaction. We have two lovely teaching assistants, Mrs Farley who works Monday to Wednesday, and Mrs Montebello who works Thursday and Friday. The children receive specialist PE teaching on a Wednesday and have a series of Forest School lessons during early summer. We benefit from having strong links with both our churches, All Saints’ and St Richard’s, and our children are educated within a Christian ethos.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage learning is promoted through both adult directed and child-initiated activities. We aim to support all children in developing their personality, talents and abilities. We actively promote equal opportunities for all children in an inclusive setting. The values of kindness, respect and tolerance underpin everything which we do and consistent adult modelling supports the children to value each other, the learning environment and the equipment which they use.
