Attendance

https://www.gov.uk/school-attendance-absence

Our school target for attendance is 97%

Lateness

Punctuality is important educationally so that children don’t miss out on their learning time and is also a legal requirement. ASSR operates a soft start with our gates open from 8.30 and gates are closed at 8.50am. This is in order to ensure your child attends school on time in the mornings. If you are having problems getting your child to school on time, please make an appointment to see the class teacher to discuss how school can support you further.

Withdrawal from learning applications

Forms to request an absence from learning are available from the office, and at the bottom of this webpage.

We are not able to authorise time away from school unless there are exceptional circumstances and we require 14 days’ notice of any absence.

Some examples of exceptional circumstances:

  • Funeral of parent, grandparent or sibling
  • Sudden loss of housing through eviction or domestic violence
  • Out of school programmes such as music, arts or sport operating at a high standard of achievement
  • Religious observance days - This would include the Islamic Eids, as well as religious observance days of the orthodox Christian, Jewish and other religions.

 Holidays in term time

Family holidays are not covered by ‘exceptional circumstances’. ASSR will not authorise any term time holidays.

If a family chooses to take leave during term time for a holiday which is unauthorised they may receive a fixed penalty notice (£60 per parent, per child which increases to £120 if not paid within 21 days).

All schools have a legal duty to publish its absence figures to parents and to promote attendance. Equally, parents have a duty to make sure that their children attend. School staff are committed to working with parents as the best way to ensure as high a level of attendance as possible, and we thank you all for your support in this matter.
